I make mine with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipe\/24094\/butter-flaky-pie-crust\/\" target=\"_blank\">all-butter pie crust<\/a>.<\/li><li>Apples &#8211; Tart apples are always better for baking. I make apple pie filling with fresh apples to produce a flavor that canned pie filling cannot compete against. I like to use a mix of crisp apples such as Gala, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Jonathan.<\/li><li>Lemon zest &#8211; I always add lemon zest to my pie filling. It goes so well with apples.<\/li><li>Apple cider liqueur &#8211; I add a touch of apple cider liqueur to intensify the apple flavor. If you don&#8217;t have this in the house, you can leave it off or try  using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mountain-Cider-Company-Spiced-Concentrate\/dp\/B01H7KDSBS\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?dchild=1&amp;keywords=apple+cider+concentrate+king+arthur&amp;qid=1599831576&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=cupcakeprojec-20&amp;linkId=458515d2d742210847a567907f224fe4&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\">apple cider concentrate [paid link]<\/a>.<\/li><li>Eggs and cream &#8211; These are for the custard part of the pie. You won&#8217;t find them in a typical apple pie.<\/li><li>Spices &#8211; I use cinnamon and nutmeg. You could also add a touch of cardamom if you like that flavor.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-it-s-made\">How It&#8217;s Made<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by blind baking the pie crust. To keep the crust from rising during the bake, top it with parchment paper and pie weights, dried beans, or marbles. Put them in a large pot with melted sugar and butter and let them cook down until they are soft, but not mushy, about 8 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-pink-background-color has-background\">Apples cook down quite a bit.
