Use a dry red wine to really infuse them with a ton of flavor. In addition to pantry staples, it requires almond meal and sliced almonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, you&#8217;ll need a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B01BGCDJFS\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B01BGCDJFS&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=cupcakeprojec-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow noopener noreferrer\">9&#8243; x 5&#8243; loaf pan [paid link]<\/a> to make the cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-it-s-made\">How It&#8217;s Made<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-poaching-pears\">Poaching Pears<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This cake uses fresh poached pears (pears that are boiled in wine) that stand up tall and are revealed in full when the cake is sliced open. Boil for five minutes and then reduce to a simmer. The red wine and spices give the the pears a lovely red tint and a wonderful rich flavor. You can <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/ohmydish.com\/recipe\/poached-pears-in-apple-juice\/\" target=\"_blank\">poach pears in juice<\/a> if you don&#8217;t want to use wine.<\/li><li>Place pears on their sides in the saucepan and cover for five minutes.<\/li><li>Flip them, cover, and simmer for another five minutes.<\/li><li>Flip back, cover, and simmer for another five minutes.<\/li><li>Flip a final time, remove the saucepan from the heat, and keep pears covered until ready to use, at least five minutes. You&#8217;ll know that they are done when a fork can easily go into a pear without applying much pressure. You don&#8217;t want the pears to be so soft that they are falling apart.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-pink-background-color has-background\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-red-color\">Tip:<\/span><\/strong>
<strong>It&#8217;s totally OK to drink the poaching wine<\/strong> after you&#8217;ve used it to poach the pears. Using an electric or stand mixer, mix in honey and butter until completely combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, in another bowl, mix together the wet ingredients: eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until <em>just combined<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grease your loaf pan and then line it with parchment paper as shown below.
