Rich and sweet, the chestnuts give this dessert a festive flavor that makes it perfect when making pies for Christmas!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-a-christmas-pie\">What is a Christmas Pie?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There is no particular pie that is called a Christmas pie<\/strong>, so any pie that has Christmas flavors can lay claim to that title. My favorite choice is this roasted chestnut pie. (I also frost my cupcakes with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cupcakeproject.com\/roasted-chestnut-butter-frosting\/\"><strong>roasted chestnut frosting<\/strong><\/a> for the holidays.) Chestnuts are so linked to Christmastime that if I try to bake this pie any other time of year, I can&#8217;t even find the nuts at the grocery store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if chestnuts aren&#8217;t your thing, other wonderful contenders for best Christmas pie include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hungry-girl.com\/recipes\/candyland-peppermint-pie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer\">Peppermint pie<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/geekycooker.com\/2017\/12\/24\/white-christmas-pie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer\">Coconut pie<\/a> (Some call this white Christmas pie)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insidebrucrewlife.com\/eggnog-cream-pie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer\">Eggnog pie<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-roasted-chestnut-and-chocolate-pie\">How to Make Roasted Chestnut and Chocolate Pie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My <strong>chocolate chestnut pie is made with two layers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>a chestnut layer<\/strong> flavored with maple syrup and nutmeg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>a chocolate layer<\/strong> made by dividing the batter and adding chocolate to some of the chestnut layer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To make a layered pie, simply fill the pie crust with the plain chestnut part of the batter. Then, top with the chocolate batter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As long as you don&#8217;t shake the pie pan around too much, the layers will stay separated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-variation\">Variation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you prefer more of a striped look instead of layers (like the image of the zebra pumpkin pie below), pour a little of the chocolate batter into the center of the pie pan, then pour some of the plain batter into the center of the chocolate batter. The plain batter will push the chocolate batter out. These chestnuts are really easy to work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are nice and soft and turn into a nut-butter like texture once you food process them. (If you haven&#8217;t tried this with other nuts, you should! You don&#8217;t need an open fire &#8211; just a baking sheet in your oven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-best-crust-for-christmas-pie\">The Best Crust for Christmas Pie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I use a graham cracker crust made from crushed store-bought or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cupcakeproject.com\/homemade-graham-cracker-recipe-graham\/\"><strong>homemade graham crackers<\/strong><\/a>.
