Of course, the key ingredient in Mexican chocolate sauce is chocolate! The better the chocolate that you use, the better the end result will be. I use dark chocolate baking discs from TCHO [paid link]. You can also use your favorite dark chocolate chips.

Maple Butter in 3 Minutes https://www.cupcakeproject.com/maple-butter/ https://www.cupcakeproject.com/maple-butter/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2021 17:22:59 +0000 https://www.cupcakeproject.com/?p=46175 Once you know how easy it is to make maple butter, you’ll want to put it on everything! It’s wonderful on toast, rolls, waffles, corn bread, pancakes, and even savory dishes like baked potatoes and pork chops.

I love honey butter so much that I’ve been known to choose restaurants just because it’s on the menu. But, when my friend asked me if I’d ever had maple butter, I had to say no. How was it possible that I’d never had it? Maple is just as good as – if not better than – honey!

I soon learned that there are two different products called maple butter. One is made by cooking down maple syrup until it turns into something with the texture of butter. This, of course, is completely delicious. However, the version I’m sharing here is also amazingly good and SO much easier to make. You don’t need to cook anything on the stove, and it’s ready to eat in three minutes.

Whiskey! My whiskey sauce is super easy to make, smooth, creamy, and addictive.

Whiskey sauce being poured into a jar from a spoon

Whiskey sauce is most commonly used as a topping for bread pudding. You also see it served with caramelized bananas (like in Bananas Foster). I love it drizzled over cheesecake or added into vanilla frosting.

Although the end result tastes wildly different from butterscotch sauce, the ingredients for the two are almost identical. They are both made with butter, brown sugar (I use light brown sugar, but dark is fine if you prefer a deeper molasses flavor), heavy whipping cream, salt, and vanilla.

Drizzle it on ice cream, use it as a dip for fruit, treat it as a topping for cake, use it in cupcakes, or simply eat it by the spoonful for a special treat!

Butterscotch is a type of caramel that is made with brown sugar instead of white sugar and it is always made with butter (regular caramel sometimes has butter, but not always). The sauce has a distinct flavor that will remind you of butterscotch candies.

Homemade Chocolate Hummus https://www.cupcakeproject.com/chocolate-hummus-so-decadent-that-you/ https://www.cupcakeproject.com/chocolate-hummus-so-decadent-that-you/#comments Fri, 12 Jun 2020 23:45:00 +0000 http://gw.finelimedesigns.com/2011/06/chocolate-hummus-so-decadent-that-you-can-use-it-in-place-of-chocolate-frosting-3/ Chocolate hummus is so decadent – like a rich chocolate mousse! It’s also so easy to make from scratch with just a few key ingredients:

  • a can of chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans)
  • a chocolate nut butter (like Nutella)
  • sweetener (I use honey and brown sugar, but maple syrup or molasses would also work if you like those flavors.)

The whole thing comes together super easily in a food processor and lasts for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator.

Jar of Maraschino Cherries

When most people think of maraschino cherries, they think of the store-bought version [paid link]dyed-red cherries that are super sweet from soaking in a sugar syrup. However, they can be easily made at home by steeping fresh cherries in either alcohol or juice.

My alcohol-free version is made by steeping pitted cherries in pomegranate juice and loads of spices. The cherries are tart, sweet, surprisingly complex, and incredibly inviting.
