Like banana bread or zucchini bread, it’s wonderful for breakfast or as a snack – traditionally served slathered in cream cheese. It’s a delightful, simple recipe to add to your repertoire.

Date nut bread on a white serving plate, partially sliced

Date nut bread used to be sold in metal cans; if you haven’t had one made from scratch with fresh ingredients, you’re in for a treat! While I haven’t tried the can version, my mother-in-law says that mine is less dense and so good that you don’t really need the cream cheese.

The most important ingredient in this recipe is obviously the dates. It’s easiest if you buy pitted dates, but pitting whole dates is also very simple – just make a slice on either side of the date and the pit comes right out. This works with any kind of dates. I use Medjool dates.

Puff Pastry Apple Strudel https://www.cupcakeproject.com/apple-strudel/ https://www.cupcakeproject.com/apple-strudel/#comments Sat, 10 Oct 2020 21:11:42 +0000 https://www.cupcakeproject.com/?p=39380 My cheater puff pastry apple strudel is made by wrapping an overflowing spiced apple filling with store-bought flaky puff pastry. I finish it off with an outrageous sweet apple glaze.

Eat this pastry warm right out of the oven as a special fall brunch or snack on it all day long like I do!

There’s no skimping on the ingredients in this recipe. I pack the strudel with so much filling that it’s almost bursting!

Mom’s Charoset Recipe https://www.cupcakeproject.com/charoset-recipe/ https://www.cupcakeproject.com/charoset-recipe/#comments Thu, 02 Apr 2009 19:30:00 +0000 http://gw.finelimedesigns.com/2009/04/charoses-recipe-moms-recipe-3/ Charoset is a reason to look forward to Passover. I would eat charoset year round, but then I wouldn’t enjoy it as much over Passover. I could eat it by the bowl – cold or hot. Charoset is almost always served cold, but it’s actually great after 30 seconds or so in the microwave – try it!

While I typically experiment and drastically change recipes, there is no messin’ with Momma’s charoset.

Charoses Recipe

Mom’s charoset recipe is actually from The Complete American-Jewish Cookbook [paid link]. As I look at this digital picture of the cookbook, I can picture the more worn out version of it sitting in Mom’s kitchen and feel all warm and fuzzy. If you want your own worn out version, you can get used copies of this book for only $4 on Amazon [paid link]!

In 2004, I went to the Kentucky Derby for my birthday. There were no Kentucky Derby cupcakes there, just a lot of rain. It rained so hard that they had to shut down the betting systems due to flooding. Jonathan and I had to walk in puddles of floating cigarette butts, beer bottles, and other things I choose not to think about.

We were in the infield. For those not in the know, the infield is not the dressed up fancy hat Derby that you see on TV. In fact, you can’t really see the races from the infield except on a big screen. However, it’s a big party atmosphere and being there was a blast, especially since I won my bet!

This year’s Derby is on Saturday! My Kentucky Derby pie cupcakes dreamed that they were in the Derby:
